The Biggest Star Wars Party the Planet's Seen Yet!

My heart is racing like I'm a five year old waiting to open presents on Christmas Eve night.  I'm so thrilled that I'm afraid to believe that it's true...Star Wars Celebration VI will be at the Orlando, FL Orange County Convention Center August 23 - 26, 2012. I am a person who is usually very verbose and all I can say is that I am speechless! Need more proof, go to the source.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars - Strwrsgrl Review

How wonderful that the conflict in this movie involves Jabba the Hutt. I had often wondered why the Empire cared to turn Han Solo over to Jabba in Empire. I’d always assumed that Jabba had paid a bounty for Solo but the fact that his control of supply lines in the outer rim territories makes him an important figure throughout the Star Wars Saga justifies the Empire’s dealings with the Hutt. The film is full of the same kind of action and humor that every Star Wars fan expects. It has its own edgy 3-D look while staying true to the classic Star Wars palette.

Of course watching the battle scenes in the various terrains of space or new intergalactic cities is fun and I could watch light saber and clone battles 24 hours a day. However, my favorite scenes in the movie are the interactions between the characters.

“Anakin was a good friend…”
Those words spoken by Ben Kenobi have whispered in our ears since the original trilogy began 34 years ago.  Now we can see that camaraderie in detail. Anakin Skywalker is a Master with his own Padawan but Obi-Wan is still always there for him saving the day just in the nick of time. It’s difficult to choose my favorite lines where the two knights show their adoration for each other, but Obi-Wan’s, “If anyone can fly a bucket of bolts through hyperspace, he can,” is close.

The interaction of Jedi and clones is also very entertaining and intriguing. These two classes of warrior learn to care for and respect each other through many battles, which make the imminent mass murder of the Jedi by the clones all the more nauseating.

Whether it be Obi-Wan and Anakin or Skyguy and Snips, it’s great to see the Master/Padawan relationship in even its more mundane scenarios.  I simply love it when Anakin tells Ashoka, “Get some rest yourself. It’s been a long day for you little one.”

I love Ashoka Tano! Her sarcastic humor and backhanded saber style will be the envy of every kid watching – no matter what their age.  The Anakin/Ashoka relationship may seem like an excuse to pull new “younglings” into the Star Wars family to some, but Yoda reveals early in the film that Skywalker’s mastery of training a Padawan and then learning to let them go is key to his own successful maturity as a Jedi Master.  Unfortunately, we all know that attachment is Anakin’s fundamental flaw, which leads to his eventual path to the dark side.

Now that we’ve welcomed little Ashoka Tano into our hearts…what is to become of her? We don’t see her in Episode III and that makes her ultimate destiny extremely intriguing. Does Anakin kill her? Does she escape the mass extinction of the Jedi Order? Who knows? The Clones Wars is a delicious amuse bouche that gives us all the more reason to watch the television series and find out.

The Force is with us, again!

I give Star Wars: The Clone Wars: 4.5 light sabers.

The Clone Wars on the Down-Low

A recent incident by a virtual acquaintance of mine, a verbal lashing from their five-year-old concerning their ignorance of the Clone Wars, prompted me to right a very shameful wrong in my life – I am not current with The Clone Wars. When the series began I was very diligent with my viewership, but somehow over time life got hectic and I missed an episode here and there. Feeling that I was unable to keep up with the story line (I’m the sort who won’t watch a movie if they come in even a second after a film starts.) I stopped watching the show thinking that I would catch up over some long weekend.  Now months later, as we are all waiting for season 4 to begin in the Fall, I’m desperately trying to get caught up.  I have, like a good parent, educated my child from an early age about Star Wars and my now teen-aged daughter has a strong knowledge and love of the Saga. The only thing worse than her apparent, unavoidable seduction by the dark side now that she is a teenager, would be a disdainful scolding due to my ignorance of all things current with The Clone Wars.  I have blithely avoided being cornered with questions about the current scenarios of this 3rd season by making fresh baked goods, favorite meals and hosting the occasional sleepover. Knowing that these tactics cannot last forever, I finally devised a plan to review the entire series and get caught up before the premiere of season 4 this Fall.

While my initial intention was to avoid the disparaging remarks bestowed on all parents by their teenagers, I have so utterly enjoyed reviewing the series that I can’t believe I ever let myself get behind.  From the initial orchestral horns that let you know that it’s Star Wars , to the pounding drums of war that tell you this is also something new. Each episode is like a mini Star Wars film filled with characters you know and love, sweeping scores, visual excitement and above all – great storytelling. You learn things you didn't know about characters we all thought we knew so well and are introduced to others you never knew existed. There are new species, starships, droids and worlds to explore. It is a multimedia feast. Still, what is most miraculous is how griping the stories are considering you already know the ending. I can’t count how many times my heart has raced as I wondered at a story’s outcome.  I actually caught myself worrying that Anakin or Obi-Wan might not make it through a crisis but then remembering that this is pre-Episode III and they'll both be okay. It's been an exercise in tenacity staying spoiler free, but so far so good, lol.  Don't think that you can't jump right in and start watching episodes on Cartoon Network, Fridays at 8:30 pm because you can. I've watched many episodes out of order and found them very entertaining and not the least bit confusing due to any lack of continuity. If you share my OCD status and want to get the fullest pleasure out of the series, then I strongly suggest purchasing the season 1 & 2 DVDs. You can view the series before purchasing by going to Netflix.com where seasons 1 and 2 are now available for DVD rental. Afterwards, you can view episodes from season 3 on StarWars.com.  I have also included an episode guide at the end of this article to help you on your own quest to Clone Wars enlightenment.
